02 - 07 - Riposte

Creature and most of his team were now gone. His last recording indicated that Kamilla was now in charge of Azalea. THen of course news from Kowloon proper was not forthcoming. It appeared that the Empress' cousin and wife were officially maneuvering while the Empress was off at war. Kamilla stood with Azalea Company surrounding here and manning their defensive position in the interior of Lucarin City.

She had a clear view of the battle, and it appears that the Gartagen were holding their line. The only issue she had was the fact that the other Cities across Lucarin were rapidly falling. The Atraxians were striking all at once, and the Shield General in charge of this planet's defenses had not acted swiftly enough in evacuating the civilians.

Kamilla turned around and noticed many of the Civilians were sitting firmly behind them. The flashes and thunderous reports of heavy weapons causing the ground to shake. Lucarin still stood. Moments passed, then an hour. Before long the Gartagen's were in the middle of their Organized retreat. As were Alliance and Tai Pan relief forces that had come to aid in the defense of the world.

The Atraxians were poised to enter Lucarin City, and from the view looking down on them, their vast hoards of Mecha, and soldiers were wasiting no time. Kamilla turned and barked her orders. "This is it. There isn't any retreat, we either win or we die. Fight house to house, and hand to hand. Surrendering to Atraxians is not an option!"

A short, thin young woman shifted nervously in the crowd as she heard Kamilla's words, her hand toying with the old surplus handgun tucked away in a holster inside her thick green jacket. Her tired green eyes darted left and right as she peered through her protective goggles and the messy black hair framing her face, as if she was looking for a way out. In a way, she was. The nineteen-year-old was still cursing her luck. After years of scratching out a living on her own in the Taianese frontier, she just had to board a ship bound for the Kowloon System. She'd thought that maybe, just maybe, there would be something there for her that was better than the life of a homeless Third Class "citizen" of the Empire. And now she was stuck in the middle of a planetary invasion.

The woman, Hotaru Akiyama, swallowed nervously. She wasn't a soldier. That should have been obvious to anyone. She barely reached five foot in height, and thanks to a chronic lack of proper nutrition she was thin enough to nearly disappear into her sturdy traveling clothes. Unfortunately, she had a suspicion that the Atraxians wouldn't care about what she did or didn't look like. So she tightened her grip on her pistol and drew it from her jacket, sweat clinging to her pale skin from both the heat and the fear of the upcoming battle.

A familiar tingle rose up in the back of her mind as she exerted her mental abilities, feeling out the gun in her hand without looking at it. She didn't sense any faults within the gun, or the ammo loaded into it. She hadn't sensed anything the other times she'd checked, either, but it paid to be thorough. Not for the first time, she considered running for it, further into the city. She might be able to find some hidden basement to teleport herself into. That would work.

...Until it didn't. Knowing her luck, the Atraxians probably had some kind of way of rooting out hidden civilians. With a grimace, she admitted that her best bet was probably to stick close to the trained soldiers. She just hoped the elf knew what she was doing.

Alexander Ridgewood stood before his men, the five house warriors that had accompanied him to the front lines, and nodded to each on in turn, giving them a Ridgewood salute. They all knew what this meant, that perhaps none of them may survive this, but indeed it would be a glorious death. Alex stared at the approaching horde with anticipation, a smile on his face as he thought of the glory such a last stand would bring him, especially if he survived. The enemy was numerous, and trained, savage and intelligent, and Alexander drew his blade as he rocked in place out of excitement.

His men stood at the ready behind him, and Alex looked over his equipment to ensure his low chances of survival. His carapace armor was dark, and the symbol of the Azalea Company on it's back, and the symbol of the Empress on his chest. He wore her symbol proudly, it giving him the courage to fight on for a better future. His blade sat in his hand, long and pointed, suitable for both casual fencing and for graceful attacks in war. Tucked into a makeshift holster was a unnecessarily gaudy revolver from off world, more for status than war, but still a cold instrument of death.

He smiled at the incoming wave of death, placed his elegant helmet on his head, and waited for orders. He stood like a professional, a warrior through and through.
