[Knights of Kowloon CH 4: 1] The New Prisinor

Post by Tony »

"Does anybody have any crackers!?"

The voice reverberated through the cavern. It was a haggard, husky voice. The electronic thrum of a translator gave the voice the standard accent as it called out once more. "Crackers?! Please? I need Crackers!"

Dallas and Lukina were the only survivors of the group that had been taken, prisoner. It had been months since they had been free. Their clothing had worn out and was little more than cloth wraps strewn about their bodies. Food had limited, and sparse, which the metabolism of the Half-elf had not taken kindly to. Lukina having taken on a ghastly thin appearance. Dallas's bones protruded and he has visibly emaciated himself, though not as far along as Lukina.

The pair sat in the chilly cavern, mining ice. When that voice hit them directly. "Crackers? Do you two have any...crackers?" it said with that electronic thrum.

Dallas rubbed freezing sweat from his forehead with a ragged and jittery left arm. He attempted to stand up straight as he heard the translator's words. "We don't... are you new here?" His voice was a broken, gravelly shroud of what it had been. His sunken eyes attempted to find the figure to find who spoke. "We don't have anything. Get back to work." He continued to try and see the figure.

He turned back to continue mining the ice as his eyes were too weakened to see beyond the single light they had illuminating the cavern. He could see the light about three hundred meters back and the figures mining there but no further. He didn't know if the voice belonged to one of them or someone who had walked all the way here from the mouth of the cavern.

He looked to Lukina and forced a warm smile, "Let's get back to work, if we an break this vein in we can probably get back to the warmers in an hour or two." He'd been trying to be her encouragement throughout the hell that this had been. He no longer cared that they would never be rescued. He just wanted to keep her spirits up enough. He'd even began giving her parts of his ration once he noticed her strength failing.

The Ranger looked back over his shoulder to the figure. "Is there a problem, guy? Or did you not hear me?"

The silence in her commslink and her telepathic bond to Bhelith left a void in her thoughts she never realized that she missed. The cold was a refreshing change for Lukina vice the insufferable inferno deeper in the mines. She didn't relish the idea of going back towards the heat. "At least the ice provides something to drink, I don't care if it's contaminated any more." She shoved a few loose dirty, greasy strands of hair back behind her ear. Time had lost its meaning beyond the breaks in work. Her ear pricked to the voice.

She turned to look towards the newcomer. "Maybe they have some news of the outside. I think I have a small piece of cracker left... they haven't changed tact yet, dump in new blood but not provide more provisions to keep us going," she rasped. Her nose wrinkled in disgust, knowing that it was more likely that the self-designated King of the mining pits was hoarding any supplied. "It's not much, more like a sliver of disappointment but I am willing to trade it for news or rumors, Stranger."

What Lukina and Dallas would see could only be described as an alien wrench. Hunched over with a massive humpback. The figure turned, and Lukina would see a warm Amber eye lock on to her. Friendly. Familiar and burning hot as it did during her time in Lorani province. Was it a hallucination? A fleeting moment of her mind cracking under the drudgery of work and a starvation diet?

Then the figure, wrapped in thick heavy wrags looked at Dallas and spoke. That deep raspy voice. "Dick head, you haven't even tried to escape this shit hole?"

A hooked claw stabbed out at Dallas. "I hope you wore your shittin pants. Because you're about to shit your pants."

"You waste all this time getting here and you forget you fuckin' snacks," He shouldered his axe and took a step forward. "What the fuck took you so long you bastard?" The Ranger's voice was almost gone. His sunken eyes locked on to the single Amber eye that looked to his. Emotion filled his mind and coagulated into a confused mess.

He thought it was either him, or he'd finally died and he was his grim reaper. He was prepared for either.

"Escape how. It's a fuckin' hole in a rock with only one entrance and last I checked I wasn't a fuckin' buff ass tiger or a weird busty chicken or whatever dinner plate turned person the Taianese tend to be. I was convinced this was the end, or it was hell itself." He gave a painful sounding chuff, that was supposedly a laugh "And I ain't got anymore pants to shit into."

He turned to Lukina and offered a bony hand as if to help her up but its twitching weakened the thought that he could even do it.

Lukina stared at the newcomer and felt a clash of emotions bubble up. She was too tired to scream, to cry. She wasn't sure if she'd see him again. The mindlink had been quiet for so long that she heard echoes.

"What's the plan? Galva nor Mara have claimed yet, we have to go find the others." Her voice was strained, rasping. Her mind was back on the mission, the location of her friends and the Empress. "Creature, I..."

She accepted Dallas's hand and eased herself up. "I ...can't even. L... let's just get to it before those bastards come looking for us again."

Creature flicked his tail and squinted his eye into a slit as Dallas fussed at him. "It's a long fuckin story. After yall got captured, I didn't know what else to do. So I decided to go do that group therapy shit Bob had set me up on, and made a new friend. Ori. Then Ori and I got drugged and kidnapped and put on a cruise ship that got attacked by Pirates." Creature said as he turned about on his toes, the massive hunch back jostled slightly as he dug into it, pulling out a can of Ginger Beer and cracking it open. "But it was like a weird fuckin band of sexy pirates. So then like some of the knew magic and zapped me back to the past where I was on some alliance planet for like thirty cycles. So I set a timer, got a job with the Alliance and waited. The timer went off and here I am!" He then looked down at his feet "I should probably check on Ori...I hope she is okay."

Creature turned back watching Dallas help Lukina to her feet. "Errr..Well....I uh didn't have much of a plan for escaping this place. Getting into prisons is easy, leaving is hard "

*SPLICH*

Dallas and Lukina would suddenly see the business end of an Ice Pick axe suddenly appear out of Creature's skull. Creature tensed up and hobbled forward. His eye flashed wide open. "Heeeeey!" He slurred. "That wasn't verrrry niccccceeeessss." He added shambling forward and falling on his face.

"Alright. Boss changed his mind." A chittering voice said. It was the wiry fellow from days before. "Told me to end you and any of your buddies a little message. If you are worried about eating, start with this old lady here." He said leering over the fallen Gartman. "Did you get the message?"

"Yeah, crystal." Dallas let Lukina's hand go and made a stepped up to the wiry man. His sunken eyes met his, then Creatures single one then finally back to the man. Simply grabbing his head, he slammed it into the jagged wall of ice and rock. Over and over, he kept slamming the man head against the wall until either the man stopped moving or his hands gave way. The energy moving through his body yelled for him to do the former.

He let the foreman drop to the floor before he picked up his own pick. "Let's start a breakout, fuck dyin' in this shithole." He looked down to Creature, nudging him with a busted up boot, "You dead?"

Lukina gingerly removed the ice pick from Creature's head and sighed. "It can take a moment for the healing to kick in," she commented ignoring the gurgle and whine of her stomach. The smell of blood made her mouth water and she hated it. This place had twisted everything. She wiped her mouth with the bad of her dirty free hand. "We're going to be on the menu if they catch us, Dallas, help me get Creature back up. He got in, so he should know how to get us the hell out."

She glared at the ruined body of the chittering overseer. And loathed him more as the stench of his foul body spilled its noxious fluids on the dirt of the cavern, making reddish mud. Her stomach tightened. And her hunger made his wretched form look almost appetizing. "Let's go. Come on, Creature, it's time to be a big damn hero. Can;t have you sleeping on the job. This should be easier than the prison ship." She considered getting into his head, but she was too exhausted to attempt the neural link.

Please, we need you.

Lukina learned very quickly that while Creature was lean and wiry, he was very dense and heavy. Creatures blood ran freely but as predicted his regenerative capabilities were starting to kick in. It would be a while before he was back to 100%. Which for Dallas and Lukian was not good. They had just killed that foreman. He would have buddies coming to look for him before too long, and the trio was in no shape for a fight.

But Creature was not alone. That big hunch back was not just a disguise. Creature had used it to smuggle things in. Lukina knew this because a pair of hands had just handed her a cookie, then vanished in the fabrics.

"Mona?" Despite herself, Lukina felt a flood of emotions at the cookie in her hands. She wanted to cry again. Her hand trembled as she struggled with Creature's weight. She wasn't anywhere near a fraction of her original strength. "Dallas, help me with Creature. And.. let's split this. We need the energy." She considered the calories that she needed to fuel a spell but she wouldn't be able to process it fast enough. There was also the chance that she was blocked by the planet from the Song. She hadn't felt Galva, Mara or Saule in the countless days that proceeded this one. The silence in her mind was frightening. But.. the end was here.

She broke the cookie in half and quickly stuffed it into her mouth. She held the other half out to Dallas. "Don't be stupid," she mumbled, "You need the boost too, if we have to drag him out."
