Chapter 19: Adding Adlets

With one disaster after another, the crew of the Edward Deming are stretched thin after another incident places their friends and family in danger...Some will go to great lengths to achieve their goals, though others may not be so eager to make a Faustian bargain.

Adlet Village

"I initially thought that you did not require any help, and instead prioritized on my inquiries," the serpentine female replied to Zen. "However, it is clear that some form of assistance is necessary. As you are fatigued however, I suggest we discuss the details of what can be done at a later time provided you keep your communication equipment with you," she then suggested to the Adlet. Waving as he departed, the Snake added, "I hope we can discuss the details of your reproductive organs at a later date." Turning its emerald eyes towards Sonia, it then added, "And yours as well. This is highly irregular, and is worth documenting."

Basecamp Wazu

"Of course," Hoshiko replied to Heram's statement. Looking at the strange insect-thing, she added, "I am certain that we will return. However, something else rather showy caught her attention. "Was your shuttle meant to rapidly accelerate and decelerate?" the short Tigress questioned the man, the distant human made vessel having maneuvered rather eccentrically.

Shuttle

"Sorry, I lost my grip on your detachable leg module," the Dog-form spoke up from the passenger cabin, speaking up to the door that divided them. Seated in one of the crash seats, the black haired woman was strapped in as though she were just another passenger on the flight, but soon unbuckled herself as she approached the door. Klonk, Klonk, Klonk! went her armored knuckles against the metal dividing them. "Was their a malfunction with the shuttle?" she then asked. The soldier from Tai Pan didn't seem physically bothered in the slightest by what had happened, and instead, seemed to be genuinely concerned for Enid instead. At least, the words were. Her voice, like all of those from The Empire, was as expressionless as it always was. "That acceleration and deceleration pattern was not standard procedure. Are you alright?" the woman asked. Knocking on the door again, she added, "Do you require medical attention? Should I tear the door open?"

However, that proved to be not necessary as Geiben made his entrance. Before she could say much more however, the man was already in the cockpit.

The speed at which Enid’s leg came flying into the cockpit was more than enough to yank it out of the hands of the sticky-fingered Taipan dog. That force was also such that catching it would prove quite dangerous unless something else had first absorbed the energy.

Luckily for Enid and the Prosthetic, there was a rather yielding display panel in the path of the leg to slow it down. The impact causing the leg’s knee to bend slightly to absorb the force. The foot of the leg tilting to best spread out the impact so as not to hurt the prosthetic or the person who wasn’t wearing it at the time… but certainly might have been.

The heavy ‘CRUNCH’ also indicated that the display was now no longer functioning. A blue screen accompanied by white error text and a QR code was now hidden behind the fractured transparent material that made up the display itself.

The shuttle had plenty of automation to prevent an accident, and could tell that there was serious damage to the control interface. This would set the shuttle to ‘land at the nearest safe area’ mode, and lock out the damaged control systems to avoid bad instructions being accidentally sent.

--

Wazu had also seen the maneuvers pulled off by the shuttle.

“The shuttle doesn’t just use a Sears–Haack body for its aerodynamic profile, the electrostatic fields around it also generate lift and allow it to hyper-cavitate in atmosphere and blend shock waves into the surrounding air harmlessly.

I originally designed it as a luxury transport for in atmosphere use. It could pull much tighter maneuvers than that.”

As he spoke, Wazu was checking his Datapad… wondering if the shuttle’s safety's had been triggered due to some catastrophic injury to the pilot. Not that he would betray his worry with any kind of ‘look’ on his face for Hoshiko to observe.

--

Green-Thumb was similarly distracted from her job of monitoring Hoshiko, as she relayed Geiben’s request to Green-Horn.

“You heard him, track the shuttle.” She stated.

Green-Horn was sitting onboard the ship to provide just this kind of support. She was able to quickly check the shuttle and relay her findings to the team,

“Looks like some damage to the controls. Telemetry and Lifesigns are otherwise fine… but I think you’re stuck flying it remote from here on out.”

Quarum was more welcomed to stay here than the Tai Pan people. She at least could be trusted. She at least WANTED to learn for real. Them? They wanted to tear everything apart and remove something that wasn't here. It was annoying. With this in mind, they deserved all the negativity that was directed at them during the Summit. If their people had gone through the horrible misfortune that Hoshiko claimed they would, you'd think that they would be able to see their mistakes and that they are getting very close to doing that to a species that wasn't on their playing field. Just like how THEY were once, not on anyone's playing field. But no. It was clear now that they were a race of assholes and intrusive idiots with a far higher aggression output than he had. Ah yes, he remembered his meeting with Hoshiko, when he tried to talk sense to her and appeal to that sob story of her's with facts.

The adlet recalled how he threw that back in her face. How he went on about aggression and that SHE was the real threat. To avoid issues though, Zenigata kept quiet when Quarum was told that she had to come back with Geiben and the Tai Pan annoyances.

"You can always talk to the former Shaman Quarum, I'm sure he'd love to have you as his guest." Zenigata told her, hoping to give her something to look forward to.

The adlet stayed put, waiting. Having seen the shuttle manuver in such a way, he felt concern. It didn't crash to his understanding so that was slightly good. Although...he could only hope that doing a stunt like that wouldn't hurt the pilot. When the snake spoke up again, Zenigata was still looking at them. Oh for fuck's sake. Why did this one DAMN thing want to know how the stupid sex worked? Intrusive and no understanding of privacy....then again, the damn thing would've probably never said anything if Sonia hadn't...urgh.

"I think it's time you go if that shuttle is fine." Zenigata told the snake, nowhere in the mood to put up with the snake anymore.

He stayed put. He wasn't going to walk into camp until the Tai Pan were out of sight.

Ecur squad lead was typing up her dismal report of how the auxiliary team did for 984 and the main team who would be getting out of the med bay today knowing full well she fucked up she dreaded 984's response while typing it up adding insult to injury she looked up when the order was given still typing up her report "ecur cqc and ecur two, can you get that im a bit busy." the two soldiers already on it along with the other two unlike their oblivios squad lead were trying to do their job.

back with Sonia she thought of a way to get the snake to leave them alone and had a idea "okay ill discuss that with you but only after you get photographic and written documentation of how spacificly yours work along with male types of your cast and the documentation must be no more than a month old and must be spacificly you and a male type. those are my terms."

Ignoring the banging of the dog girl Enid awaits the crews return. When Geiben finally arrives she takes strong note of his attractive features and their tensed expression. After he asks for a report of the events during the comms blackout her face grows into a worried expression as she realizes she may still be in trouble. Enid has never filed an official military report before. "Yes sir" she squeaks. Intiating take off she brings them into the air after all passangers are secured. The ride is a quiet one back to the prime LZ. Enid does not speak the whole way there.

Shuttle

Like an ignored puppy, the burly Taianese woman simply sat down in one of the passenger seats again before letting out a whine.

"Nyoro~n."

Adlet Village

"....Oh. Understood," the Snake finally replied to Zenigata. Behind her however, the Tigress was tapping her foot, arms crossed over her chest.

"You do realize, this means I won't get to go ice fishing at the best spots that only the locals know of?" she accused the serpent, golden eyes ablaze.

"Ssss-sorry."

Basecamp Wazu

For a good long moment, Hoshiko simply stared at Wazu.

"You do realize that you tend to get much more technical when something has gone horribly wrong?" the small woman pointed out to him. She then proceeded to stare at him some more.

Basecamp Wazu

“Alright, everyone, lets slow things down.” Wazu stated. With everything going on he needed an opportunity to get a handle on things. Hoshiko was here now, and he couldn’t waste the opportunity to develop that relationship. Things were also already tense enough without involving the Adlets as well.

It was time to pull things in, and setup base camp.

“Geiben, get a hold of the Deming and have them send down. Green-horn can walk you through the basics.

Quarum, feel free to continue speaking with the Adlet.

Everyone else, return to the base camp for now.”

“SO we’re not going to see the Adlet-friends?” Soffy asked, sounding a bit disappointed as she pulled her little rolly-cart back towards the base camp, stopping just in front of Wazu and Hoshiko. Her LED face mask showing a small frowny-face with a single tear. She was perhaps as adorable as one could be when one was a giant wasp-looking creature.

“Maybe tomorrow,” Heram replied, turning his attention to their own Adlet to address him through the Datapad Heram carried.

“Zenigata, Maybe you can let us know a little more about this area? What is nearby, why your people came to this location?”

...

...

Wazu would spend a bit more time, sorting through things on his Datapad before finally addressing Hoshiko's concerns.

"Our last outing together left several with life-threatening injuries, ruined a shuttle, set fire to much of a city, and left me with three small kitten-things to take care of.

The one before that nearly started two different wars.

This time we are doing better than average."

---

Green-Horn was already getting to work, forwarding the relevant inventory item lists to Geiben.

“We have a two cargo-container medical bays, a number of automatically deploying tents, hiking gear… and the engineering bay can fabricate just about anything. Let me know where you want the stuff dropped off. We can let the drones fly it down or hand over control to Enid and let her land them.

We can do the same with bombs too… consider it danger-close-practice!”

Adlet Village

When the snake was gone, Zenigata took a deep breathe and exhaled. Course, he soon wrapped his arms around Sonia as he smiled, chuckling lightly. Oh he was glad that damn snake was gone. Granted, Sonia had been more so the one to get it to go away.

"Oh thank you." Zenigata said as he took a moment and released Sonia.

The sound of the device going off and causing him to pull it out of his pocket. Oh. Good question. His tail gave a few twitches as he started to type.

"I'm not well versed in the story but our tribe used to be nomadic under former leadership. I'm not sure what happened to cause my Kaskae to demand a change in leadership and well, it's clear what happened there. With our current Kaskae, he lead the tribe here and said that we would no longer wander from place to place. I can only assume he choose this area due to the forest nearby as well as the clearing." Zenigata's message would read. "We've been here for several years now. As for what's around here, we have massive wolves, deer, cariubo, snakes, and various other things. When winter is over the giant spiders will come down from the mountains...and well, we have the Wolf Heads that fly around."

Sending that part of the message, he glanced around. Was it wise to just walk into camp and try to relax? The Tai Pan already knew how to get here.....so there was a chance they would slither in. He hated this. He hated feeling paranoid.

"In spring and summer, this area has a variety of plant life that we use for medicine and traditions. The clearing is often used for training and we even have a small field on the other side of the village. The soil here is very comparable with various plants." Zenigata added onto the message.

Looking to Sonia, he gave her a smile. She couldn't just stand out here...she needed to get inside.

"Hey." Zenigata told her. "you remember where I showed you my healer's hut? Head on in there for me, okay?"

"... Negative, Ecur squad leader." Geiben opens up his data pad to look around at the geography. "Based on personal ground observations, you have done your job. One man's shortcomings mean neither that of the entire squadron, nor your personal leadership. Simply have your CQC speacialist report to me once I return to the main camp. Otherwise, your squadron is to continue protecting our personnel." He pauses, then puts more reassurance into his tone. "This ship cannot simply be carried by the few, select elite, after all. All of us rookies need to step through the mud at some point."

Before the Ecur squad leader can respond, Geiben makes contact with Green-Horn. "Roger that, Green-Horn. Based on topographical scans, I'm seeing two hills northeast and north west of the main camp. I'd like two beacons deployed there, outposts set up there with sensory equipment. Have the med bay, engineering bay, and tents deployed on the plains between them. Have the drone send them in; Enid's busy with bringing us back to the main camp." He then opens comms to all IAS Edward Demming personnel. "All planetary away-team personnel, it's gonna to be a busy night, as we are to relocate to a defensible position. Standby for specific instructions once I return to the main camp." He then tosses in something casual to lighten up the mood. "May caffeine be on your side, folks."

On an awkwardly quiet trip over to the designated primary LZ Enid makes little eye contact with Geiben. She only exchanges a small phrase with her Captain "By the way the dog girl is still on board." She points to a display panel that shows a live visual feed of the crew cabin. With a sideways glance at Geiben's shoulder she listens and waits for his commands.

"Yes, I saw when I came in." The commander remarks as he examines the damage done to the control panels of the cockpit, then glances at Enid. Odd, no apparent injuries. The Taianese didn't seem to try to kill her either. Quietly, he taps his earpiece to record audio, then relaxes in his seat. "Green-horn, one more thing. Send down two structural engineers and a repair crew, have them bring equipment for diagnostics."

He then addresses the rookie pilot. "Alliance Navy property was damaged here. By protocol, we'll have to launch an investigation and document all this. Before we begin formally though, I'll give you the chance to provide your own anecdote, Enid." He then looks at her, making eye contact. "What happened here?"

As the cold nerves shoot around her body and her stomach turns, the feeling reminds her of being a child in trouble. "She stole my leg with like no warning and wouldn't quit pestering me while I was trying to maintain my post so I had to get it back but I couldn't stand up to get it so I tried a maneuver to throw it back to me and it hit the console." Her words fast and uninterrupted she exhales an energy of panic. Focussing on the controls she breaths heavy. The fear of being court marshalled after only one tour strikes her with a nasty knotted feeling in her gut.

“Looks like Geiben is taking to the leadership role well,” Green-Thumb commented directly to Wazu over a private channel.

“Well we won’t be here forever.” Heram replied, “... the Universe won’t save itself.”

Even with setbacks for the day, and the group’s own exposed rough edges, it did seem that they were improving. Something that was encouraging even put up against the rather unified front that Taipan set forward.

“You should pull things in too. Let the drones handle overwatch.” Wazu added.

“... And get some face time in with the infamous Hoshiko? There’s a reason I’m in infantry instead of the diplomatic core.”

---

By the time the group reached the hill that Geiben had picked out, there were already two cargo containers that had been dropped off. One was a functional medical bay, already equipped with the various tools Soffy might need to do her job. The other was full of ‘party supplies’ including food and drink, but more importantly tents for the night.

That's something the Taianese would do, given what we saw. Geiben simply nods. "Once we land, you are to stay put, both you and the Taianese soldier." He then opens a channel to Green-Thumb. "Captain, please have two of your soldiers prepare for our arrival; make sure they have their body cams on. I don't want the Taianese accusing us of hurting one of their own." He then sighs nervously, before attempting to make contact with the Taianese leadership.

"Vice Admiral Korui Hoshiko... this is Commander Geiben Folami of the IAS Edward Demming. Your Taianese officer, a canine-form, has been involved in an incident aboard our planetary shuttle, resulting in damage of Alliance Navy equipment. I ask you to arrive at the coordinates I am sending you to assist in the investigation. Until then, we will be detaining your three soldiers who have followed us on our mission to the adlet village. Make no mistake; we are simply following protocol for investigations like such, and will ensure their fair treatment. Furthermore, we'd rather not have your soldiers return to your camp on foot in the dead of night." If Mr. Wazu and the captain don't throw a fit, the Taianese certainly will.

The commander lifts his officer cap and scratches his short, curly hair nervously, this time avoiding eye contact with Enid. Damn the Taianese. He then gets up out of his seat and makes his way into the crew cabin, scanning the Taianese soldiers. With his recording software still on, he flatly remarks, hiding his growing disdain, "Upon arrival at our camp, you are to wait for your Vice Admiral to arrive before you are free to move about." He looks at the canine-form specifically. "You have been present for an incident that resulted in this shuttle's damaged console. I simply ask you to participate in our investigation. Understand that I am not allowed to interrogate you personally without your Vice Admiral as witness. If you have any grievances, speak them now, but bare in mind that this conversation is being recorded." Translation, you warmongers: Don't damn try anything stupid.

----------------------------------------

Upon arrival at the new camp, Geiben steps out of the shuttle, waving at the two soldiers he asked for. "Green-eggs, please help keep an eye on the Taianese soldiers. Don't let them leave the camp until their Vice Admiral arrives." "Understood, commander." Geiben nods, then moves to greet the structural engineers. "Good dusk to you two. Simply standby and await orders. We can't start investigation of what has just transpired just yet."

He then comes to the center of the camp to meet with Green-Thumb, Mr. Wazu, and the Ecur Squad Leader, pulling out his data pad, marking locations on a topographic map of the camp. "Captain, have your men continue to scout and patrol the area, prioritize the forests. Ecur squad, you are to have half your men securing the hilltops, manage the sensor arrays, and take up sniping positions; keep your trigger fingers cold, we're just doing it just in case. The rest of your men are to help set up the camp; focus on setting up the search lights." The commander then focuses his attention on the Ecur Squad Leader. "Keep an eye on the CQC specialist. I don't have the time to confront him right now, speaking of which..."

He turns to Green-Thumb. "Captain, because this investigation involves Taianese personnel, I ask you to oversee the investigation, given that you're the highest ranked Alliance officer here. I can do most of the talking if you wish. I already informally confronted Enid." Geiben gives her an exasperated look, before going back to stay with the Taianese soldiers.

Basecamp Wazu

Hoshiko's expression darkened as she received the transmission from the shuttle, but she didn't say a word more than simply confirm that she had received the message. When the shuttle finally landed however, her three junior officers filed out, all bickering with each other just as they had moments earlier. For the whole entire ride, the three refused to sit next to each other, and bickered. And bickered. And bickered some more.

"Stupid dog," the Tigress grumbled.

"You and your fish!" the dog shot back.

"Girls, can't we get al - "

"NO!" the other two cut off the Snake.

"You will be silent," Hoshiko spoke up from Heram's side side. Pointing at the ground in front of her, the three snapped to attention before quickly rushing to line up in front of the small woman. Briskly stepping forward, the short Vice Admiral reached up to examine the Dog-form's face. Asiatic in descent, with hints of European for its strength, she remained expressionless as the diminutive Tigress stroked her fingers through silky black hair, examining for bruises, marks, or any other injury. Satisfied, she stepped back before turning back to Heram, her relaxed yet meted pace somehow full of menace, blue eyes locked on his. Reaching up with a hand, she snapped her gloved fingers.

"Just like an elevator huh?" came Enid's voice, a tracking map's hologram appearing with the rapidly accelerating shuttle in the center. "BREAK CHECK!" they then heard her yell, the craft's tracking point and telemetry suddenly shifting, the information clear that it was maneuvering hard. The evidence that the Zhōngjiàng had on hand was irrefutable.

"Mister Wazu," Hoshiko's voice began, her emotionless tone overshadowing the words with a dark, ominous intent. "Borrowed prosthetic or not, one of your personnel had attempted to cause bodily harm on one of mine," she stepped closer. Closer, within arm's reach. Closer, dangerously so. "This Will. Not. Stand." It didn't matter that he was a head taller than the redhead. No, she was looking down on him, and she knew it.

Basecamp Wazu

Luckily, Wazu could think quite quickly.

There were a number of ways he could respond, but launching a barrage of whataboutisms would do more harm than good. He did feel that Hoshiko was straightforward. She liked to attack a problem directly. As much as he hated applying kung-fu metaphors to warfare, it was quite apt here. He needed to apply some ju-jitsu to leverage his opponents force against her. The dog was the natural choice to pit against the tiger.

"Your dog type is quite strong. I am certain she would be able to handle herself."

The idea of putting Hoshiko in a position to argue that her subordinate wasn't durable enough to handle the maneuvers in the shuttle was delightful, but hardly an end to the argument. He could already see how she might be formulating her response. He would need to continue to adjust the situation. The next problem was that Enrid wasn't under HIS command. Technically he was a civilian, and Green-Thumb the ranking officer. She was on her way back to this location but it would be a few more moments before she arrived. Simply turning things over to her was the right thing to do, but it would certainly look like he was running away from responsibility. More importantly he needed to establish that they were both on the same side. Simply saying 'your soldier started it' or that 'they both should be punished' was not good enough.

"I am dissapointed that my people retaliated in such a way. Being assulted first does not excuse the action, and I am sure her commander will come up with a disciplinary action that is fair to both parties."

Wazu kept his feet planted, looking right at Hoshiko. His datapad still in hand, held out in front of him. They both knew full well what she could do. She'd already choked him out once today, bruises still present on his neck and face from her hands.

Heram Wazu would face this directly. Even if he was over-matched, he'd bash his face against the problem until one of the two gave out.

...

And Soffy was standing nearby, the LED facemask she was wearing showing a surprised :O

The cqc specialist noticed the bruises on wazu's neck as it really didn't listen to many people it lit up a cigarette and popes the question. "So i'm guessing you two are dating right I mean those bruises on your neck and how you can have these heated arguments with her id assume so plus some kinky shit to boot...i mean i dont judge but it makes sense mabie start a harem with her heram?"

he squad leader looked between Wazu , Geibian and to the cqc unit before saying "im so getting demoted today..."

if the tai pan's sense of small was so good they would notice the smell of death/decay faintly along side the smell of machine oil and some fregrence hard to identify covering up the smell from normal sensed people.

"Ecur squad leader, detain that soldier. He is not to speak another word until I say so." The commander gives a death glare, his ears glowing red. They're already in enough bull crap as it is. This moron of a man isn't going to make things worse. He then walks to move in front of the CQC speacialist, between him and Mr. Wazu and Hoshiko, before he can look more like an idiot.

Geiben comes up from behind Wazu, his hands stiff next to his sides, his heart pounding. "... Vice Admiral. I am the commander who contacted you, and have been overseeing much of Edward Demming's functions, including the investigation of this incident. Under Captain Green-Thumb's jurisdiction, you will be talking to me. Now if you will stop contesting with a civilian, and treat this situation as the military matter that it is, I will gladly provide thorough investigation into the matter."

He pauses, his heart skipping a few beats as he clenches his fists into the cores of stars. His voice grows solemn. "Let's make matters clear. Just as I cannot threaten judgement on your soldiers, you, likewise, cannot press judgement on my officers. We will move through this investigation according to protocol."

Geiben motions to the structural engineers. "We will first analyze what physically transpired on the ship, then cross reference it with the audio logs and their timestamps that both you and I possess. Once we have our own evidence of what has transpired, you and I will interrogate our officers, cooperatively. Only then, once we have gathered sufficient physical evidence and personal testimony, will we cast judgement and reach a compromise. No part of this process will go undocumented. We will not be threatening each other, for the sake of our alliance. If you have any objections towards the procedure I am proposing, speak them now." He stares at the Taianese Vice Admiral. Try as he might, there's a fear in his eyes as he attempts to push justice forward.

Basecamp Wazu

"It is irrelevant whether or not such a thing would have harmed my soldier Mister Wazu; it was a hostile act, one that would have easily ended you," Hoshiko replied to Heram, her own soldiers acting the part of perfectly obedient soldiers by staying quiet, contrary to their earlier behavior. Pointing a finger at him as she spoke, she slowly began circling the man, her face as expressionless and cold as it always was. "The theft of property - as temporary as it was - is inconsequential in comparison. And need I point out that your person did not bother requesting the item's return before escalating to lethal force?" Slowly stepping around and around Heram, she exuded the presence of a predator that had had gone from leisure to cornering prey in an instant. Before she could say more though, Hoshiko's eyes narrowed at the possibly brain damaged soldier as she turned her nose up at him, nose wrinkling at his presence. From the thick collar of her suit, the small Tigress deployed her helmet, a flawless hologram of her face and hair coming to life as though she never covered herself to begin with.

Ignoring the brain rotted soldier, and the inoffensive bug-person, she instead turned her chillingly cold blue eyes on Geiben.

"That may be the case, but this failure would be ruinous to your careers if it went through official channels," the Tigress turned towards him. Stepping forward, she slowly closed the gap, "More importantly, I have already analyzed what had physically transpired on board your ship, with your soldier," the woman added, her body now precisely less than a quarter inch away from him. Uncomfortably precise as she was close, it was something that simply wasn't possible for a human to do. It didn't matter that she was a full, complete head shorter than she was. If Geiben moved in just the wrong way, perhaps even breathed too deeply, it really would be over for him with how close she was. All his height and brawn simply didn't matter, and was worthless against her. "You forget Junior Captain, our suit sensor data, our hearing, our vision, our memories. They are all permissible as evidence given that they are stored in our electronic systems. However, I am not interested in destroying you, your commanding officer, or the people below you."

Staring at Geiben for a moment more, she eased away, only to turn her attention back to Wazu.

"I will go to the Adlet village and speak with this 'Kasake' myself. You will not interfere or make any more of those annoying, feeble threats," she stepped back towards Heram. "And, I will overlook this incident." Hoshiko then turned to leave, her soldiers following behind her.

Basecamp Wazu

And just like that, Heram's attempts had been overpowered and pushed through. He couldn't help but feel a bit burned that she kept ignoring their attempts to engage her in discussion... choosing to go right to what she wanted. He'd need to figure out something... but Hoshiko seemed to already be on her way. There seemed to be no choice but to follow.

"We should leave the soldiers here." He called out after her, "I would rather avoid them assaulting the Adlet."

It did seem that things were getting closer to requiring real threats. There were options there, but the situation could use de-escalation.

"Maybe then we can focus on enjoying exploring a new world, rather than being at each other's threats."

---

Soffy was already scurrying after Wazu, before getting a message from Green-Thumb to hang back.

Green-Squad itself wasn't going to get out of their armor anytime soon.

"Keep your distance," She reminded everyone, "We're back on protection detail. Green-Squad will continue to monitor our guests from Tai Pan. Everyone else listen to Geiben."

She'd leave it up to him to handle the rest.

Geiben stands there blankly, fists still clinched. Inside, the man is boiling. The lack of respect, her own threats of violence, it was outrageous. Nothing he could. Or was there? Something either clicked in the commander's brain, or something snapped. The man simply smiles professionally. "Very well, Vice Admiral, if you see no need to pursue investigation further, and that you've come to your own jurisdictions, I have come to my own as well. You have no ill for me, nor my crew, do you not? Enid, come here." He waves at his pilot to come over here.

He draws a heavy breath. Was he doing the right thing? If he was listening to his principals, yes he was. The Taianese don't seem to care either way. "Enid, you will be free of punishment. I am giving you a formal warning, however: diplomacy is always our first line of defense." He talks to her personally, but maybe loud enough for the Taianese feline-forms to hear with their sensitive ears, and looks at her reassuring. Don't worry about it, I have your back. The commander then notions to the engineers. "Continue with the investigation of this incident, give me a simulated course of events within 72 hours. Repair what was damaged upon completion. Enid, if you need to, head to the med bay and make sure your prosthetic leg is fully functional, and check for other injuries."

The corner of his eye stays on the Taianese as he goes consults his Captain. "Captain Green-Thumb, I'll give you a report for documentation as soon as the engineers are finished. We'll resume our operations as planned. If you need me, I'll be in my tent confronting one, problematic soldier of ours." Geiben waves at two armored Green-squad soldiers to follow. "Ecur Squad Leader, you are to join me, given that you are his supervisor."

Before moving on, he gives one look at Mr. Wazu, noticing the injuries on his neck. The commander gives a flash of sympathy. Figured as much of the Taianese. Good luck.

The Adlet Village and the area around it:

As Hoshiko would trudge through the snow, it crunched beneath her. The area was clear of any creatures, the previous tracks from the group heading down to the village were still visiable and if she wanted to have a easier time walking through snow, she could just walk through the old tracks. She would be able to spot the adlet village from a distance. The village was quiet as night had clearly descended upon it. The only soul still out and about was Zenigata, she'd spot him sitting on a rock just outside of the village and well, the adlet was firm on staying here. You can't trust Tai Pan, not with all their threats and clearly what they had done here and now. He wasn't in the mood for their bullshit.

Now Hoshiko had a choice. To either pester a sleeping village or to turn back and wait for a actual DECENT hour.
-----------

The Forest search (Green Squad):
For the group that headed off into the nearby woods, they would find the tall leaveless trees stretching toward the sky. Their very top branches fading from sight into the night sky. Once in a while, the night vision would catch sight of small predator animals. Their eyes glowing before they turned on their paws to avoid the strangers. It would be a few minutes of walking but they would soon hear a loud animal crying out. Following it would be a firm voice, a voice saying something in a different language that they wouldn't know.

If they moved forward just enough to peak out behind a thick cluster of trees, they'd spot a group of adlets and well a deer like creature that had a pair of large thick antlers. It stood around the size of a fully grown horse. A spear was sticking out of it's side as it staggered in a circle. It was a group of five adlets, each one holding a unique look to them. Two of the adlets wore wolf like pelts over their body and they ran past the deer like creature. Making sounds to try and divert the creature's attention from the others in the group. The adlet that would stand out though was a rather tall and muscular one. He stood tall with a curled tail against his side as he held a spear and took several steps. His dark grey and white leg making him fade into the night somewhat. A large scar was on their right arm and their green eyes were focused.

A firm voice left them as they seemed to be giving instructions in that foreign language, a hand was raised and they made a circling gesture. As if for good measure for the others to understand.

----------------

Hill Search (Ecur Squad)-
The hills were bare and empty, rolling around the land with some snow covered bushes and rocks. A good distance away though, they would notice a form. Looking closer it looked to be a lone adlet, they were standing on higher ground and looking around. Their gaze directed at the sky but they were clearly on alert for something. They were at too far of a distance to tell any details of this stranger. Behind the adlet, they could see tops of trees.

A ear splitting howl went through the air though, causing the adlet to stand up straight. With a look to the right at the sky, the adlet took off. Disappearing behind the hill and going toward the area that had trees.

After the shuttle lands the whole of both parties seemed supremely occupied by the conflict onboard between her and the dog girl. When the Tainesse and Admirals started to talk she felt like a child sitting outside the principal's office. This whole thing reminded her of the feelings of being in trouble as a kid and going through a bureaucratic process. She tried to stay in the cockpit but she could feel the eyes on her back from strangers out the windows. If only she could pull down a set of blinds and just hide. The only other option felt worse, sitting with the dog breed in the crew cabin closer to where the "investigation" was taking place. Begrudgingly she moved to the cabin, holding her stomach with one arm. She wished for nothing more than to curl up on a bed and maybe cry. Anxiety raddled her as she sat quietly listening in on the conversations. Hearing the recording playback shot her full of self-loathing and made her feel sick. Maybe asking would have been a better choice, if she didn't hold prejudice over Tai Pan then she probably wouldn't be in this mess. Eventually Geiben addresses her with no punishment and gives her orders to stop by the med-bay. Walking through the snow with her head down in shame she stumbles into the medical pod. "Hi, I'm to report in for a check up." She says meekly and without eye contact to a nurse. "And I wanted to ask if you have anything for anxiety."

The hill search Ecur Squad:

The group would get the okay and as they approached the peak of the hill, they would hear a voice.

"GET DOWN YOU IDIOTS!!!" A sharp and loud female voice ordered.

IF they listened they would avoid the sharp black talons that swung at their head as something dove down at them. The large form was fast, easily retreating higher up in the sky. For Ecur Squad, they would see a female adlet standing across the way. Perched upon a rock as she stood as tall as she could. Watching the strange beast before it disappeared.

"Grizzle!!! Do it now!!" The female ordered as she pointed in the distance.

There was no verbal response from whoever this Grizzle was, the cameras would pick up on a spear being thrust into the sky. A second ear splitting howl rang out although it sounded pained now. And a large form could be seen spiraling down toward the ground out of range. As for the female that had spoke, her emerald green eyes were thrust at the group, a look of displeasure on her face. She seemed to have some sort of blue paint under her eyes. A black vest of fur was over her chest and she sported a dark blue grey pelt with white and black markings. Upon her head was a headband that could have fangs or claws adorn on it, three in total. Her thick slate grey brows narrowed as she stared at them.

"What are you fools doing?! Do you wish to get taken by a Wolf Head and add onto it's kill pile? We have been hunting this one for months and you almost ruined our plan!" The retorted as she stalked up to the group, standing firm and straight.

Her strange tail had a curly tail that was shorter than what the group had seen on other adlets. She was middle aged and rather lively still clearly. Her wrists had a tuft of grey and white fur around them, tied there by a brown band.

As the three ecur squad members crossed the hill guns raised abd ready ecur-3 fired his gun tords the ground upon relex as his body tumbled back his throat ripped clean open spilling crimson on the ground in a pool the sound of his round being discharged and the panic yell of ecur two on open com channles "man down, i repeat man down!!" while ecur-1 stays with his downed teamate the ecur-2 goes to the adlet "are you ok ma'am".

meanwhile back at basecamp the rifle crack followed by the call of a man down caused the squad leader snow to blank out. She was not used to combat having only done sims or training the open coms channle crackled again asking for medical help from ecur-1 as he tried to stop the bleeding didn't help ease her nerves.

Basecamp Wazu

The small woman's steps slowed before she turned to look back at Heram at her moment of victory. And yet, on that cool poker face that she always held, there was no sense of gloating. Instead, she turned her attention away from him for a moment.

"No disciplinary action for her actions? As expected of the Alliance I see," Hoshiko instead admonished the 'punishment' Geiben meted out for Enid. "Very well, but I will always be your better, even in this," she chillingly glared at the Junior Captain. Turning to look at her Dog soldier, she pointed a finger at the brawny woman, who's tail ceased wagging. "You will have one week sanitation duty," the Zhōngjiàng punished her own soldier for the earlier transgression. "Proceed with the others for now." With that done, she then turned her attention back to Heram and gazed at him for a good, long moment before turning her back on him. "I will consider it," Hoshiko replied, her voice emotionless. The petite woman then stepped into her night black shuttle after her soldiers. With the sun's fall, the shiny black exterior of the ship glistened with the stars above, the motes of light shining clear for all to see without the glow of city lights to drown them out. Watching her leave was like seeing her step up and into space itself, but moments later, the Taianese officer emerged, a crude rope sling tied around her waist like a belt, and a leather pouch attached to her hip.

"I have considered it," she authoritatively spoke to Heram. "The Kasake's hunting party is near, and I have my suspicions as to which of them it is," the petite tigress began walking out of camp. Glancing back, her expression cool as it always was, she asked, "Aren't you coming along Mister Wazu?" The woman's bright blues briefly eyed the gunshot and cries for help over the radio, but in the end, didn't seem to care. She was looking at him.

Geiben sighs of relief hearing Hoshiko's insult. Why? Was it that he proved a point? Seen as a commander non-threatening? Or was it the simple fact that he didn't escalate things to the point that he got his throat ripped out? "I will always be your better, even in this." Somehow, a victory came out of this. The great Vice Admiral of the Taianese, compared herself to him, a captain still in training. He fakes a cough to hide a faint smile as he walks besides Snow, the Ecur squad leader. So indulgent in his thoughts, that he didn't consider his words when he allowed the Ecur squad to follow the adlet.

To say it was a mistake, was an understatement.

The commander was ready to interrogate Ferryman, the troublesome CQC specialist, when he heard the panicked reports coming in through his earpiece. His hands slightly trembling, he accesses his data pad to check the biometrics of the Ecur squad away team personally. One line, going nearly flat. Geiben gulps. No no no no no is all his brain could scream out as a gets up from his seat and starts barking orders semi-consciously. "Soffy, get the med bay prepped for emergency procedures at once. Green-squad, whichever of you is nearest to the coordinates of Ecur Squad Charlie, move in to assist. Enid, you'll have to wait on those medical assessments. I need you to fly to those coordinates ASAP, grab one of the medical personnel." Geiben doesn't even glance at Ferryman as he quickly leaves his tent, before realizing Snow blanking out. He raises his voice at her to snap her out of it. "Officer, you need to maintain contact with your away teams, you hear?" He doesn't wait for a response, as he goes on into the cold to shout at other people. "We need a clear path from where the shuttle's going to land to the med bay!"

He then draws breath for once, before issuing secondary commands. "All away teams, start moving back to camp." His fingers threaten to kill each other as the wrestle behind his back. Geiben approaches Green-Thumb, with a mix of guilt and worry. "Captain... any advice?" Is all he could spit out as his heart pounds upon his esophagus.

The Hills search Ecur Squad:

Despite her seasoned look, her pelt bristled at the loud boom of their strange weapons. Fear hit her eyes as much as she tried to stay stoned faced and she even jerk backwards. She was crouched low to the ground as she waited for any signs of what that sound was. Since she didn't know where to look other than at the group, her gem colored eyes just stared back at them.

"Well too late on that part..." The female retorted when she saw the dead stranger.

Her emerald eyes looked this strange group up and down. What the heck were they? There was a couple of moments of silence before a sound of something colliding into a tree and crackling of wood splintering could be heard. More crashing followed it as the far off tree was probably destroyed from whatever hit it. A sound of a yip like bark would bring her out of her state of fear as she stood up quickly and looked off toward it. Good, they got it.

"I am fine, if you were listening to anything I said earlier you would know." The female replied firmly as she stood there. "Now I need to help my tribe mates, I can't stay and chat."

With that, the female adlet turned and headed toward the source of the loud crashing sound. Course members of the squad could indeed, follow after her if they desired.

Basecamp Wazu, Medical Bay

Soffy had just set down her wheely-case when Enid came into the portable medbay. She got her small, blue, three fingered gloves and put them on four of her feets, pressing them together as she stood in front of her patient, considering what she would prescribe for Anxiety.

".... YOU NEED A HUG!" She suddenly shouted, running up to Enid. The small I'ee was less than half the woman's height, but she wouldn't let this discourage her. She half-jumped up onto Enid's lap, bracing herself with her two rear most legs as the other four tried their best to wrap around her. The I'ee's small wings fluttering behind her as the LED face mask displayed a ^_^.

The I'ee's eyes might have been looking right at her, but it was hard to tell really. The compound eyes let her look in just about every direction so it was nearly impossible to tell what she was actually focusing on... though the antenna on her head were gently pushing against Endi's face, still covered in their warm stockings.

Geiben's voice could then be heard on Soffy's Datapad saying they should expect injured.

"SOMEONE HAS BEEN HURT!" Soffy shouted, panicking a bit, her legs starting to fumble about in all directions as she tried to get down off Enid.

---

Basecamp Wazu, Exterior

Green-Thumb would hold up one finger to Geiben, needing to pause the conversation as she reviewed the camera images with Green-Horn. It would take a few moments for them to figure out what had happened. Apparently some large flying creature had taken down one member of Ecur squad.

There was a lot of information to sort out. There was a new threat around, and Green-Squad would need to adjust. The thing to do would be to reconfigure their anti-tank rounds to deal with the local wildlife, but Green-Thumb wasn't willing to risk a mistake that might actually injure some of their Taipan guests.

"Green-Horn, reconfigure my stun rounds to target large local wildlife. I'll stick with Wazu. Do the same with Green-Eggs and let him know he's on wildlife duty."

She'd hold up her G8 launcher, applying an augmented reality overlay so she could see the version info of the targeting config. She wanted to make sure changes were in place before she needed to pull the trigger. Smart weapons were great, but if they were configured to go after the Taipan, they'd be less than useless against whatever space-dinosaur they might have to deal with.

She'd then turn her attention back to Geiben.

"Stay calm. Get the injured to the medbay. Soffy can sort them out. Have Green-Horn send down some more drones and keep everyone together. Try and keep our people away from the Taianese for now.

We still have a mission to carry out. I'll keep an eye on Hoshiko and Wazu...

...Don't panic. Act rationally. We'll be fine."

For the moment, Green sqaud would have to deal with something besides the group of Adlets.
---

Outside

Unexpected sucsess?

If he could trust everyone else to not further the problems of the day, then it would be easier to deal with Hoshiko directly.

Then there was the call that someone had been injured.

He would take his time, check his datapad, and then follow Hoshiko. It appeared that their security plans hadn't changed. Green-Thumb was still shadowing him... and it seemed that Geiben was trusted enough to handle the rest of it. Sometimes, the hardest part of this was trusting that other people were good at their jobs.

Though, that was somewhat harder to trust in lately.

"The Adlet are still in their infancy," He reminded Hoshiko, moving to follow her. He would have preferred to stand beside her as she moved, but it was far easier to follow through the snow and brush if he stayed in her trail. This softer touch seemed to be having some results too, and he would continue speaking with that in mind. "I prefer to treat them as creatures that still need to learn about the universe."

The large wasp, as cute she may try to bee, still roused Enid's phobia of certain bugs. Taking the weight of the sizable thing didn't hurt her legs but did pull on her back and hips. Then the sound of Geiben's commanding voice shaking with fear struck something in Enid. Yes he was her higher up and a strong man but he was also audibly plagued by the same humanity everyone else was. Her anxiety lessened as a since of determination filled her. "Get a Field Kit and follow me," she barked at the bug whom she was not very familiar with. Sprinting through the snow so fast her legs whirred with her movements. She clutched the side of the bay door frame on the shuttle and spun around it as to not lose speed. Skittering into her seat she buckles and preflight checks with practiced speed before she taps her knees impatiently until everyone loads in. "We're off" she sputters as the craft flicks into the air and moves without hesitation just above the tree line. With a straight and perfect motion to the nearest clearing to the incident she spins the craft to face the downed man. As the shuttle comes to a full rest she begins dwelling on the incident again. As her guilt returns to her mind an idea follows suit. Addressing Geiben on private comms she asks "Should I make a formal apology to the Tai Dog?"

Enid and soffy would be able to see ecur 1 trying to use his survival kit first aid kits to help his teammate not even aware he was dead from bloodloss this was his first mission with the squad so the panic of loosing someone they trained with matching the obsessiveness of first aid training as they try to stop the bleeding that has already ceased. Ecur twowas the first to walk over to the shuttle shaking his head at the scene playing out.

meanwhile back at basecamp ferryman just shrugged at the news of one ecur member dieing "guess that means your all saving money and resources now huh?" he said rather chipper as if not even caring that his squad mate may be dead or dieing "what kind of weakling dies to the wildlife?" he finished in a rather mocking tone before walking away t twords his designated area.

The Forest Search (Green Squad, Wazu, and Hoshiko):

The group could very well watch the adlets in their hunt, having the two decoy members divert the deer's attention as the signal was given. Two other adlets raised their bows and fired at the deer. One arrow struck the ground at it's hooves causing it to stop while the other landed. Granted it probably wasn't meant to hit the creature's back. The one who had been giving the orders grabbed their spear as the deer reared onto it's hind legs. With ease the adlet adjusted their grip onto it's spear as it rounded about and plunged the stone and wood weapon through the creature's chest at a angle. The length of the spear was longer, giving him distance from those thrashing hooves as he pushed on it and made it topple over. Something was said but due to the language it wasn't one the squad would understand.

Of course it was clear that the adlets were pleased in their catch, one of them even gave a small laugh to ease the tension before nudging the arm of one of their comrades. Removing the spear from the deer, they planted it firmly in the ground.

"Alright, we all want to go to bed. But we need to get this gutted and prepped first." The larger adlet instructed. "Cikuq and Eska, go patrol the nearby area. The blood's gonna attract something if we don't work quick enough. Rest of you, gut it."

A nod left the group. The two adlets who had used the bows left their spot and headed off into the woods. Meanwhile the one who had given the instructions remained. His green eyes focused as he looked around. Clearly he was on the look out for the party as the two members who wore the pelts removed them and started to work on the carcass.
---------------------------------

Ecur Squad Hill Search:
Image
With the female adlet gone and no one following. It would be a few minutes before anyone did. When they did, it only took going up one of the smaller hills to find the female with a few others at the body of a large creature. There was a older male who was giving instructions to a much younger one, probably not even thirteen years old. Of course, the female had turned around, her green eyes focused on the strangers as she stared at them. What now? She wasn't in the mood to deal with the strange group that didn't seem to consist of adlets. It was strange...the lack of canine legs.

"What is it?" the older male questioned as he looked over his scarred up shoulder.

Orange firey eyes despite his age, caught sight of the group and he rose. Tensing immediately as a hand rested on the young land. Who seemed more caught up in the beast as they were kneeling and holding it by one of it's antlers. One of the female's hands was raised swiftly in the air, clearly it was a hold position signal the way she stood there firmly.

"What do you want now?" The female questioned as she held her tail at mid level; the less furry appendage seemed to have a natural curve to it.

Ecur Squad and even Enid and Soffy would see; if they followed. A group of five adlets. The older male had wild grey hair kept in a ponytail, his skin far darker than the rest save for a torn up area on his left shoulder from a scar. Their orange eyes remained focused as they had a hand resting on the youth that was next to them. Their other hand was resting on the end of the spear that if one looked closely, they'd see it embedded into the wolf like beast. The lad was less oblivious now, their excitement over the situation having waned slightly. They sported dark brown hair but with canine legs of grey and white; the older male seemed to sport nothing but black fur.

On the other side of the creature, a young girl was hunkering down in fear. Cream hair covering one half of her face as she was hidden from view the rest of the way. She looked between her group and the strangers up the hill. To the back of the group stood another male, although he was more around the late teen area but he stood taller than the others. His pale, snow white skin was certainly something that made him stand out. A single golden eye was looking up at Ecur Squad, a look of worry on his face. The group would see parts of his dark red fur showing and that the young man had a scar on the right side of his face where there was longer a eye in their eye socket.

The Forest

"And yet, for someone who wants to protect these people, you have succeeded in drawing attention to them instead," the petite woman replied to Heram, trudging through the snow. "Now, we are both here." Marching forward, the smart-polymer soles of her boots expanded to form makeshift snowshoes as she lead the way. Soon enough, they neared the group that she suspected had the Kasake, their hunt concluded. Stepping onto the harder packed snow they stood upon, the snowshoes of her boots retracted, the rubbery substance shifting, changing as small cleats dug into it. Her pose confident, her gaze cool, she stared at the apparent leader of the group.

"You smell like Zenigata. Or does he smell like you?" Hoshiko's flat, emotionless voice put forward.

Medical Bay

“NAA!” Soffy shouted, Enid rapidly getting up sent the wasp flying towards the side of the room. The small I’ee taking hold of the cabinets and other surfaces to keep from bouncing about. She scurried over to her wheely-suitcase and took hold of the handle, rushing off after Enid on her five remaining legs, using her wings to speed herself along the ground until she could make it into the shuttle, buckling her wheely case into one of the seats before going to find a seat herself,

“LETS GO!”

It would only take a few moments to cover the distance. Soon Soffy was out on the snow next to the downed Ecur squad member.

“TOO MUCH BLOOD IS OUTSIDE!” she shouted, shocked, as she unbuckled her wheely-case and brought it over to the injured man. She would first open it up and rifle through her equipment until she could find two large syringes of white-stuff and a blue-light-thing. She’d find a place to inject him just above the injury and pump the white stuff into his body. A second injection below the injury would help fill the rest of his system. The artificial blood was pre-oxygenated… it would keep his organs alive for the time being.

“PUT HIM IN THE SHUTTLE! I NEED HIM BACK IN THE MEDICAL BAY!” Soffy shouted. The injury wasn’t something she could easily fix here.
---

The Forest

Wazu would approach beside Hoshiko, having a bit harder time moving through the snow with his rather regular boots. His boots that didn’t adjust shape to fit the terrain. His boots that didn’t form cleats… Snow shows were easy of course, he had the idea long ago to include smart metals and inflatable sections to naturally adjust the surface area of the sole of a boot to better accommodate terrain like sand and snow.

But it looked like Taipan had beaten him to the punch with a far better design.

He did his best to hide his smoldering dissatisfaction with his boots.

“Unnukkut Kaskae Taqukaq. Have the ancestors favored your tribe this night?” Heram asked, maintaining a neutral pose, hands by his side, as he faced the Adlet leader. “Another from the stars has come to speak with you. Though she is not of my tribe.”

Snow snapped out of her panic endued daze "S-sit rep Ecur team?" Her voice shaky and even though she was in a bland colored tundra uniform and face mask her body language alone showed how much she was worried.

Her radio crackled back with the somber and gruff voice of Ecur 2 "Ecur squad here ma'am upon meeting with a adlet group and Ecur 3 being dropped the adlet and her group who for what we can describe as hidden took off away from us after whatever attacked us crashed in the nearby treeline. I'm not ruling out a ambush from possible hostile tribe but it could also be a hunting party, I'm requesting the ferryman to relieve Ecur 1 as i believe hes not fit for the job after what happened up here."

Snow nodded her head "hold position until further notice." After relaying the message and request to Gabien she lowered her hood and removed her mask to take a sip from her canteen her hands trembled as she held it her albino eyes a stark contrast to her bleach white hair as she drinks from her canteen silently to calm down.

The Forest Green Squad/Wazu and Hoshiko-
The dark brown haired adlet turned to the voices and due to the tone of voice and posture of the female. Hoshiko honestly ended up ignored. It was the improper greeting after all. She clearly wasn't showing him any respect and he honestly didn't know what this name of Zenigata meant; of course he was unaware of the fact that Zenigata took a different name for a mildly good reason in order to fit in out there. OF course when Wazu spoke up, the rather stern and firm man turned his gaze and it landed upon them. Their features softened as they gave a nod to them.

"Unnukkut Tukkuttok, the Ancestors have favored our hunt this night." Kaskae Taqukaq replied, his voice holding a neutral tone.

A glance was given to Hoshiko as Wazu claimed she was form the stars as well and not his tribe. Considering how short the woman was, it was a surprise they weren't a child. However, he turned to make sure his tribemates were still alright. They looked worried but he made a gesture for them to go ahead and keep going.

"Return to your stars, you already know I want nothing to do with the Stars, Tukkuttok." Kaskae Taqukaq replied, his green eyes focusing only on Wazu as he returned his attention to them. "I know not of this Zenigata she speaks of, where is Toklo?"
----------------

The hills/Ecur Squad-
"You dare to insuit that I can control this damned beast to ambush?!! I told you lot to get down as soon as I saw you weird, Spider shell wearing people!" The female retorted, her tone suggesting that she was indeed offended and not pleased with such a accusation. "YOu clearly know nothing of how Wolf Heads operate, you lot should go back to your cursed stars."

She was not in the mood for this. The Ancestors had done enough damage and now beings were coming from the stars? Great. Just great. Her emerald gaze glanced over her shoulder to look at her comrades.

"Start gutting it. We need to get the meat and pelt before we're told we're not on neutral territory. We need as much meat as we can get off that thing." She ordered.

"Does...this mean I don't get to do the prep again..?" the young lad asked near the oldest male.

"I'm afraid so Bramble, next hunt though. You will get the honors." Grizzle Mane replied, his orange eyes focused on Ecur Squad the whole time. "Thousand Calls, you're faster at this than I am. Come over here. We'll leave the guts this time round."

The older adlet wasn't going to let his tribe mates be at risk with him gutting it. The nervous looking female came out from behind the creature and she was given a stone knife to get to work. Course the seasoned male would stand in front of the lad in a protective manner. Firey eyes still focused on the group. The one eyed adlet stayed where he was at. Feeling unease going through his chest as he stayed put. Although, he winced as he noticed it was more than unease but his own injury that was having blood drip from it. Still he stayed quiet and merely held a hand to his chest.

ecur one sighed "your on nutral ground far as i know so you neednt rush im just following protocal and making sure there are no hostiles. as i said i dont think your ambushed us otherwise why kill what attacked one of my squad mates but i have to keep that a possibility. names Ferros but my squad refers to me as ecur 1." he said loud enough to hear while he waited for further instructions.

The Forest

"So he calls himself Toklo here?" Hoshiko mused aloud. "Hmph. Father like son, both fools then," she coldly remarked, her voice flat. The moment the older Adlet had said that word, her mind's eye looked back on the last time she had heard that. At the time, the Taianese woman pondered if Zenigata were speaking of someone else or himself, but now it was clear that it was the latter. Though in Taianese - and the eastern languages it descended from - speaking of oneself in the third person to avoid using an honorific and sounding pompous was natural, that was not the case in most western languages. Especially those favored by The Alliance. That bit of uncertainty was an annoyance, and now, more than ever. "If you are not a fool like your son, you will tell me what I want to know," the Tigress pointed a finger at the Kasake. "What did items and goods did you exchange with this one here during your trades?" she jabbed a thumb at Heram.

Her patience was short, and running shorter. This primitive fool had no idea what he was dealing with, and it infuriated her that he was so stupid as to not realize his place. Just like his son.

The forest:

Kaskae Taqukaq looked at Hoshiko, brows narrowed in a studying manner. Oh so she figured she was some queen bee huh?

"Toklo is the birth name of my son and you seem very poor tempered, worse than me it seems." Kaskae Taqukaq commented, his tone showing he wasn't impressed. "Your fellow from the stars here knows what arrangement we made, do you not believe anyone but yourself?"

The two hunters who remained were giving uncertain looks to one another. Feeling the growing tension in the air. The chief waited a few moments, watching the metaphorical steam roll around Hoshiko was...a amusing thought. Letting her stir in her own brew..tempting to let it go on longer but, he wanted to get this food back to his people.

"He gave us medicine and requested a diplomat, I gave him Toklo to teach. That is all. I refused everything else he offered me and I had to be talked into the medicine thing by my tribe's healer. That all you want?" Kaskae Taqukaq replied seriously and honestly.

The tribe leader was speaking the truth and while it displeased him with how she talked. He just wanted her to get the heck back to her stars. The adlet wanted nothing to do with more Star people. Wazu here, was enough.
-------------

The hills/Ecur squad-

"I'd rather get what we can and get out, you certainly aren't from around here to my knowledge. Never seen anything like ya before and considering there is a possible accusation after I warned your dumbasses when I saw ya, makes it tricky ground to place trust in you." The female replied.

"Agreed." Grizzle man chimed in. "Who is he talking to? His comrades are further up the hill."

A shrug left the female who was in charge. She had no idea. Although, the one eyed adlet finally chimmed in.

"Squad? IS that...your Tribe?" the red furred adlet asked.

Ecur Squad

"HEY! LISTEN TO ME!" Soffy shouted, an angry >,< face appearing on her little LED display as she jumped up on two of her legs, waving her remaining four around to try and attract the attention of Ecur squad. The small I'ee trying to make as much noise as possible to draw attention, "I CAN'T MOVE THIS ONE BY MYSELF! HE'S GONNA STAY DEAD IF I DON'T TAKE HIM BACK TO CAMP!"

The Tiny I'ee would quickly scurry back over to the shuttle, using two of her legs to reach out and tug on Enid's uniform.

"I NEED HELP!!! HE'S REALLY HEAVY!!!"

---

The Forest

Wazu would address Kaskae directly.

"I would prefer to return to the stars, but because of me others have gotten the impression that your people might be dangerous to theirs. It is a mistake I am trying to resolve peacefully she will need to be convinced of this.

This is Hoshiko Kōrui, A warrior from Taipan and master of checkers."

He was quite satisfied he could deliver that line with a straight face.

"No one here needs to make enemies. Though others may someday desire to take your planet. That is not an aspiration either of us share."

Trying to regain his composure, Geiben takes a great breath. What are you so worried about? Was this not what you trained for? In reality, this is the first time the commander has been in an actual mission with actual casualties. Despite the tensions between the Alliance and the Taianese, despite the downfall of the Wangdiao colonies still fresh in the minds of his generation, his career has so far been... peaceful. Perhaps far too much so. Sure, more than once did conflict have the potential to erupt, but thanks to Alliance protocol of diplomacy first, it never extended beyond raised voices and undertones of threats and insults. For the first time upon the snowy ground, gasping the breathable air, the commander truly realized, at his heart, that this was a different planet, tens of light years away from any major Alliance installation. This wasn't the comfortable, polar sands of Eden, or the soft waters of Pacifica's beaches. This is where one of his men got his throat cut out by an unforgiving beast.

"Negative, Ecur Squad Charlie." Geiben alas opens his mouth, looking at Snow. "Charlie one, you are to retreat with Charlie two. Bring Charlie three back for immediate medical operations." "Soffy, I'm giving you full command over the Ecur squad. You tell them to do whatever is needed to preserve Charlie three's life, understood?" No way is he going to let Ferryman go anywhere. Besides, Charlie's at 66% capability at this point, their immediate retreat should've been apparent from the start. The commander paces around the camp, seeing if there's anything else he should do for the trouble at hand. Nothing but wait. He pulls his data pad out to monitor the rest of the planetary away team's positions and bio-metrics while waiting for Enid to return with Ecur Squad Charlie.

The forest:

The Kaskae stood there, listening to Wazu. However they burst out laughing at some of what he said.

"Dangerous? With all the weird things you have beyond the stars, you think my people are dangerous?" The kaskae asked as he looked between the two. "I have no desire to even deal with you lot again, I have my tribe to feed and keep safe and we have our Ancestors to guide us. WE don't need the stars, you lot can have them since you are form them."

Oh this was already getting annoying. He'd seen some of Wazu's things when they were offering to do trade and yet, he refused it all save for medicine. Which he had to be talked into! Into just taking some better medicine due to his tribe not being well that part of the season and the herbs needed weren't in large enough supply. Honestly. If Star People thought this way then he REALLY had no desire to interact with them.

Ecur/hill-

"Alpha, what's this?" Bramble asked as he seemed to struggle holding something up.

The female who had been speaking turned her head to look over Grizzle's shoulder. For a moment there was silence before she seemed to take something from the boy wordlessly. She would turn back around and start walking up to the one member of Ecur Squad nearest to her. Her hand would extend forth and in her hand was a rather large light mocha egg of some sorts. Despite it's size, Alpha seemed to be easily holding it up in one hand.

"For your trouble, take it and go back to your stars. The damned beast probably stole it from a enemy flock's nest. We have no use for it." ALpha said, her tone suggesting that even though this was a gift you better take it.

The entire time her emerald green eyes were focused on the man or thing before her; hard to tell when the face was encased in a mask.

The Forest

Inwardly, Hoshiko seethed, kicking the archaically hanging heavy bag and pulverizing the images of Heram and Zenigata within her virtual space. After all, the primitive was telling the truth according to all the metrics. It grated on her that Heram and Zenigata's idiocy had wasted so much of her time and energy. All because of what? Pity? That dumb humanitarian spirit the Alliance touted about? The tigress knew that regardless of the answer, whether it be some ploy to access ancient magics or simply feeding the primitives, there was no way she was going to be happy, but nonetheless, she was angry. Her time was wasted. She left he room, and for nothing. Swinging her powerful legs again, the heavy bag tore as its contents were splattered across the floor, only to vanish and reset a moment later. She mused over the situation carefully in her time accelerated mind-space. The captain of her flagship wanted her to go out more, explore, see strange and wonderful things and be happy again and all that after what had happened. Symbolically walking among the soldiers and interacting with them wasn't the same, the captain said.

Fine. The Taianese woman turned her face to Heram and lifted a corner of her mouth in a sadistic smirk so that only he would see. Her icy cold gaze went back the Adlet leader.

"Given that I had never seen one of your kind prior to seeing your son, his outburst immediately made me suspect that his people were very violent, and could harm others," Hoshiko started to explain to the Kasake. "I immediately decided that I would have to investigate, and capture some of his people for study. Interrogation, where we ask questions and hurt them if they do not answer, followed by vivisection," her deadpan expression stared at him. "That is a fancy word for cutting open a living person to learn how their insides work before putting them back together for later. But I digress," the Tigress folded her arms behind her back, slowly pacing back and forward. "I had been wondering, just what could possibly have attracted my peer's interest in a people like you this whole time?" Hoshiko referred to Heram. "Did your people give him something of immense value? Surely not Tokolo, considering his worthlessness as diplomat. Was it some thing of power? Or perhaps a resource of some sort? Or maybe, he needed playthings? Warriors to be casually spent like items being bartered with? Worthless things to die in the place of his own soldiers? I fear I have not found the truth." She stopped pacing and turned to face the Kasake again.

"Will you be inviting us to dinner?" she gestured towards the deer, her words icy bladed spears pointed at the Kasake. "I insist."

The Hills,
Shuttle Craft

"Hello?" came a familiar voice from behind Enid, its words toneless and flat. Behind her, the stowaway war dog of a woman seemed to phase into existence as her armor's stealth systems disengaged. Looming over the seated pilot from behind, she was an imposing, implacable fortress of brawn. Standing tall, her shoulders broad, arms strong, and her face as deadpan as it always was for the rank and file Taianese, it was impossible to tell just what she intended. At least, until she said so herself. "I'm sorry. I wanted to apologize. Are you okay?" the dog-form asked, her tail tucked between her legs.

The Forest:
"Maybe his outburst had provocation? You seem to only have one trait in personality and that is being a bitch and that is something that can provoke anyone with more than one emotion." The kaskae rumbled back to her.

It was certainly getting on his nerves. She hadn't even shown a inch of respect, at least Wazu had. That's why he engaged with them. His neutral stance changed as his fur bristled. She dared? She was threatening his tribe?!! The kaskae watched her as he stood tall, unmoving from his spot. His muscular arms folded as he watched her. His green eyes looked to Wazu, a look of distrust growing on his face as the Kaskae was evaluating the trust in the man. His gaze wandered back to the Tai-Pan being before him.

"I told you what he got, he got my son to help him. Nothing else." The Kaskae replied firmly. "You should ask him that question then, my son found him on our planet one day."

At her final demand, he laughed.

"No." The kaskae told her. "You are not welcomed in the tribe stranger, you are a threat to my people considering what I've heard you go on about. My duty is to protect my people and I wouldn't trust you near any of them. Besides, this is for breakfest, everyone here has already eaten dinner. I want nothing to do with you and I'm sure once my Shaman and our Council hears of everything you've told me, they will agree for my tribe's safety you will not be welcomed in."

The male's green gaze was directed at Wazu. Firm, displeased, and clearly....angered.

"Have her leave with you, I will need to talk to you in the morning considering my son under your care. If all you Star People are like her, then I want him home." The Kaskae stated, his tone serious and even more firm than it was moments ago.

They had pondered on adding in 'and don't bring her along' but that would just agitate this thing more. This...thing Wazu called...what was it? Ho...shin...ko? Whatever. He didn't care. What he did care about was that Wazu had brought a threat back on this visit, a threat that was clearly one that he wanted nothing to deal with. IF Toklo hadn't insisted on the medicine this damned Star People thing wouldn't exist!! The adlet stomped his paw and the two adlets at the deer stopped their work but merely started to pick up the gutted deer and started to head back to the tribe. They needed to be safe and the whole while, he stared back at the two Star people. It was just the Kaskae standing here now, staring at them

Ecur 1 took the egg putting it in his survival pack mentioning something about omelets as he helped Ecur two move Ecur three in the shuttle with soffy. once inside Ecur 3 was strapped in by Ecur 2 who patted Ecur 3's chest "you'll be OK brother, you don't have promission to die yet."
he then went over to Ecur one making sure hes strapped in."will boomer be ok?"
Ferrous sighed at the nicknames he was always taught stick to call sings so as not to get attached but this squad is growing on him so he responded with, "yes Ecur 1, boomer echo he will be fine, hes been threw worse, remember he nearly blew himself up in demolitions training? so I'm sure hell make it threw this."
RND

back in the village Sonia walked back over to zen handing him a cup of instant coffee thanks to the rations in the survival kit developed by Ecur squad RND.
"I thought you could use something to stay awake if your going to stick around guarding the village." Sonia looking over to zen after taking a sip of her own coffee spoke up again "cant we just have one day were no ones trying to get at each others throats, or at the vary least not have a stressful day."

at base camp ferryman looks to Gabien "I'm getting the impression you don't find me to have been a good reason to come along?" he said lighting a ciggerett only for it to be grabbed and snuffed out by snow "nock it off be a team player and quite causing problems mabie if you were less of a asshole and more willing to work well with others 3 wouldnt be hurt honestly i dont understand why most of you cyborgs of this unit are so stuck up when paired with normal people 984 dosnt act like this so why do you?" ferryman didnt answer and just scowled back.

The Forest

Heram would step forward, placing himself somewhat between Hoshiko and Kaskae,

"While I respect your right to self-determination, there are many that do not. One day the stars will come for you Kaskae. Even if you turn us away now, there are things out there that will come for you. They will come for the people you know, the people you care about, and they will never stop.

We are eager to leave, just as you are eager to be rid of us. You can get us out of here faster if you allow Hoshiko to satisfy her curiosity.

She has a duty to protect her people too. That duty has brought her here. You can be certain she shows just as much fire when it comes to keeping her people safe as you do."

His attention was focused on the Kaskae, his back mostly towards Hoshiko as he tried to establish a softer but united front between the two of them. Perhaps if he could show her that he's on her side he could make some more progress.

---

The shuttle

Soffy was practically jumping up and down as Ecur squad pulled their injured squad member into the shuttle. It seemed that she was just as anxious as Enid had been earlier.

"LETS GO! WE CAN GO NOW!" She shouted, scurrying back over to a seat in the back so she could buckle in. The I'ee forgetting her little wheely-case out in the snow as she got ready for Enid to take off.

The Hills:

With his question not answered, the tall young adlet didn't speak up again. He merely took several steps away and started to do his best to help the group with taking what they could from the beast. Alpha would watch the group leave before she would tend to the aid of her tribe. Her tribemates were more important and she didn't care about what the strangers did with the egg. If becoming a omelet was the egg's destiny, so be it. It was just a egg of some monster right? Just a egg that probably wasn't even fertilized.

The egg was was nestled within the warmth of the supply pack. However it Ecur 1 paid just enough attention, he might feel something shift in their pack. If they looked, they'd notice the egg making a slight motion. Welp....this egg might not be suitable for a omelet after all. If they choose to investigate the egg, they would see that there were small cracks along one side. They weren't very big yet, a indication that the egg had slowly been hatching. Perhaps the warmth and protective space of the pack was encouraging the creature within to continue their actions of trying to hatch?

Zen's village:
The doctor sat there, brows narrowed as he stared at the woods around him. Turning his gaze to the area of the clearing that they had entered from for a few minutes before allowing his gaze to change directions. To land upon areas that he knew he could see from here. Still he was taken aback by Sonia's voice, his tail puffing up as he jerked forward. He relaxed though as he took in it was her.

“Thank you.” Zenigata said as he accepted the coffee.

A small chuckle left him at her next choice of words. Oh if only....if only.

“As much as I would love that, it seems very unlikely.” Zenigata admitted. “It would be nice....”

His dark brown eyes looked around, watching the steam rise off the brown liquid within the mug. He took a sip and sighed.

“If I dropped the matter when I was told to with that medicine....none of this would be happening.” Zenigata said as he sat there. “My people wouldn't have this threat looming over em.”

Enid looked solemnly into the eyes of the big dog lady "Sit, she commanded while pointing at the co-pilot seat. She looks over her shoulder and back at Soffy "take a deep breath cause Imma punch it." With a spinning flourish Enid barely misses the trees as she makes take off at a higher than average speed and pushes the shuttles max to make it back to camp. "I'm in the air with Ecur squad." sputtering over comms. Enid had thousands of hours of practice and had experimented with the power and speed of every ship she could. Maybe I'm pushing the shuttle to hard, she thought to herself, maintenance is gonna hate me. She only slowed her speed 350 meters before camp so she could try to land in front of the medbay doors. With a dangerous angled landing at a slower controlled speed the shuttle touches the snow softly. "So," she looks indirectly at the dog girl as she opens the cabin door. "I actually wanted to apologize to you. I should have asked first." Looking away and into her lap ", I get touchy over my only way to be normal."
