Official Statement on Star Army

In Feb of 2018, the founding members of Shattered Universe broke off from another website, StarArmy.com, when Gallant and Tony were banned over a legal disagreement as to the ownership of their, and other peoples’ intellectual property. We won, removed our content, and a group of 30+ users, the players of the “Asteria” faction, along with the full current administration team, followed – banned for removing their work, or driven off the website for various things related to the initial falling out. The legacy of jealousy, usury, aggression and the general lack of regard expressed for every member who chose to RP with any of our users, at that time, remains with our website only as a good example of a bad one. The rest of it we have left behind.

We have created a five-person administrative team with delegated responsibilities to avoid the pitfall of trusting a single person to mediate all disagreements. We have promoted kind, caring, and intelligent people to moderator positions, and award other positions based on need and merit. We treat our artists like members of the community and encourage them – and our writers – to pursue their own projects independent of the website. We are a springboard for your creativity, not a money, or a time sink, with unreachable carrots on spring-loaded sticks.

None of our Administrative team bears an interest in the drama, petty or major, that occurs on the Star Army website, because we do not wish the attitudes, temperaments, or tempers from that website to carry into ours.

Members of Shattered Universe may freely engage in other forum roleplays, including that one, without repercussion - they may be admins or moderators, and they may write with anyone as they see fit so long as they do not break our rules; but they may not, shall not, bring the issues therein onto our channel, forums, or wiki. We do not wish to hear about it. We do not wish for our channel to become a “safe haven” for people complaining about the bullying, cronyism, or any other iniquity perpetrated against our users in the Star Army channel, or forum. While we are certainly sympathetic, we are tired of warning people against an abusive relationship, only to see them return to the relationship for more abuse, time and again.

When we left Star Army, our money went towards things we enjoyed. We stopped having to defend our intellectual property. We breathed easier. We would like other people to breathe easier as well.

To this end, we have committed ourselves to providing legal protection and patronage to any member of Shattered Universe who desires to remove their intellectual property from Star Army, or from other similar websites engaged in fraud. The only way for any company, group, or entity to gain the rights to your property is for you to give it to them in writing with a signature. To seek help, receive paralegal advice, or be forwarded to an appropriate attorney or attorney’s office, simply contact an administrator of Shattered Universe.

We believe that taking this ethical stance makes a bold statement uncommon in the realm of forum roleplaying: Your writing is yours, and nobody can take that away from you. Our writers – You! – are what makes Shattered Universe a great place to hang out, write, game, draw, and roleplay. By supporting you, and empowering you, we believe that we can make our website something not only competitive, but salient in the online role playing community market.

Please be considerate of other users by being mindful of what is said about this other website and related topics in the Discord chat.

Addendum to the above:

Regarding Star Army;

Wesley Davis has appropriately responded to all of our requests to remove content. Considering that he has been cooperative, we have decided that we are satisfied and that our involvement with Star Army is officially finished.

Having done our due diligence, as of May 2019 we will no longer directly address claims regarding content on Star Army. If you are still playing on Star Army, and contributing content to that website, we now consider you appropriately forewarned and it is stretching our humble duty to provide information to continue to support individuals who do not heed our warnings. Anyone else who has content which needs to be pulled off of that website will please utilize the proper DMCA process, but our involvement will henceforth be minimal.

If you are still there, and still having problems; we told you so. We cannot be responsible for your content.
