[IAS Lief Ericson] Long Way From Home

The people aboard the colony vessel Pioneer were set adrift with a dream of a new home when it was lost to Earth. Unable to contact Earth and not knowing where they were when the vessel re-emerged, they were surrounded by unknown species and planets. They were seemingly the last of humanity in an uncharted sector of space. Built on a legacy of human ingenuity and the best and brightest of them they had to offer, the people of the Interstellar Alliance have expanded their reach and thrived. These are the tales of humanity making the best of a bad situation to overcome the dangers of the unknown without losing pieces of the best part of themselves.

[IAS Lief Ericson] Long Way From Home

Post by Ham »

He was the odd one out of the crew, and to him it never mattered.

Christoph Weber was a regular human Ensign, except his accent gave his origin away like the smell of an apple pie on an open, concealed window in the country. Christoph was Bundesdeutsche, a Reichman, and not of the Alliance. He had been born to an Alliance mother, and through a long and detailed process gained duel citizenship and had enlisted in the Alliance Navy as opposed to the Kaiser's Interstellare Marine. He had his reasons though, and he didn't let the looks he got and the treatment he sometimes received get in his way. Why would he? He was the helmsman on an exploratory frigate, his whole job was to fly into unknown territory. Getting called a Sausage-Muncher or Sauerkraut didn't harm him none.

It was his watch on the bridge, and staring out ahead of him at the screens showed him the obvious: they were still docked. Controls to the maneuvering thrusters and the engines was locked for safety, and the helm console showed everything to be cold. Everything was okay, and the lowly Ensign was left to his thoughts. He'd been on the Ericson since a little bit before the Shakedown Cruise, and was still as anxious as he was on the first FTL trip that the ship had taken. At any rate, Christoph was excited for the future.

Though still not as excited as for what would lie ahead.
