[The Gentle Breeze] It's a Thriller - Chapter 2

Society in The Empire of Tai Pan is divided into three tiers. The 1st Class Taianese themselves, the 2nd Class who got the gene mods necessary to become Taianese in body but not mind, and finally, the 3rd Class. All the riff-raff too poor or without the social and political ties necessary to get their hands on those expensive yet wonderful gene mods. Segregated and with fewer rights, there's little room to move up in society. But, one Taianese woman in particular is wondering if this should change. Can you prove yourself to her in this story of combat, slice of life boredom, and bizarre reality?

Wu felt a bit of enjoyment at watching the suffering of their priest as she rolled about between the undead, burning them with her 'holy presence' or whatever. Wu wanted to complete these missions as fast as possible then get back to base. Every moment she spent talking with these things was another moment she was stuck in her own body. The thought of sitting around and talking certainly made a feeling of frustration start to build.

"Does that mean we are giving up on our mission to remove the threat?" Wu asked, directing her question towards Rikka.

Dante had been throughly enjoying his view of the commotion in front of him as it was a reprieve from two zealots he had inadvertently tasked himself with wrangling and the devil was begging to think religion wasn't for him, how strange, he had began to crack into laughter as the once intimidating zombies turned into bumbling messes when Viz burned them.

The yazatan man quickly had the smile wiped from his face as both he and the angle beside him were knocked to the floor by the very same priestess, which provided them all a good view of yet another interesting character, the witch who was probably running the show.

Although Dante could well have described viz as hot, smoking hot even, he didn't mean it literally and certainly didn't want to be the one receiving the heat like this. With Viz once again buring him he took the executive decision of grabbing her by the collar and seam of whatever robes she was wearing to toss her off him before he could be burnt anyfurther. The devil would've liked to 'corrupt' the priestess but if it meant burning to a crisp he'd have to put it on standby until he could find some all mighty suncream.

Once free of his incredibly useful squad-mate Dante pushed himself to his feet and dropped his helmet in his best attempt at non aggression, hoping that if nothing else the undead would like him more than his teammates did on account of his unholy nature, if not he would be resigned to his fate of most hated. He turned back to rikka who seemed to still be on he floor and offer a hepping hand because at least she didn't burn him when they touched.

Kikyo's eyes twitched as her attempts at diplomacy fell into lunacy. Her voice growled over the squads comms, "All of you, hold your bullshit. Keep all your traps shut and locked." Her violet eyes were alight with anger but her face was blank. All a facade to keep her visual cool to the undead champions and as well as the flying newcomer. She thought something was obviously up, her rags did not match the riches. Before she could actually ask the question, Rikka's voice chimed in with exactly what she was going to say.

Her voice fell back to edged normalcy as she looked up at the witch of a person. She felt her beauty but was far from oblivious. She had heard stories of darker-souled elves of yore who used human sacrifices to increase their own life, or some that had raised armies from graveyards with unholy magic she'd only barely understood. Both options she found plausible, and the witch was the prime suspect.

"Answer the angel's question."

Royama squinted her eyes and tilted her head at Kikyo- although plenty of her attention was still devoted to the newest arrival to their impromptu meeting, "Slow your roll, Kikyo, None of that was necessary." The Doctor scolded, the irritation in her voice-controlled, but obviously present. But once it was said- Kikyo was free from her disapproving gaze and the 'Witch' was the next to be under the scrutiny of her judgemental eyes. She didn't bother to repeat the question and instead waited silently for the woman's response. By this point in the conversation all there was to do was wait for the woman's side of the strange tale that their mission had woven.

Royama could barely contain her curiosity. This was going to be good

Mamoru watched from behind his visor Taking only a moment to remove his helmet and sit down to eat a ration bar. Lost in thought as he watched the group from where he sat, so far from what he's observed weather these things are brought back from bites or dead becoming risen the thought of this spreading past this planet didn't sit well with him. When finished he would get up and secure his helmet back on his shoulders and waited in attention feeling glad for the tinted visor as he didn't want to seem flustered or worried at his creative imagination running thoughts through his head what if style.

Though the broom riding Caster smiled at first, she didn't reply. At least, not right away as she watched the squad's antics.

"Giving up the mission? NEVER!" Viz defiantly bounced back onto her feet on hearing Wu's heretical suggestion. Dusting off her Taianese made bodysuit, she added, "We're closer than ever to the source of this unholy madness! We can't turn back now!" Looking at the broom rider, the heavily armed and militant priestess pointed at Kikyo. "The Edgy Catgirl is right! Did you - " the moment she addressed the other woman however, her voice began to falter and slow. " - you...one of The Six...The Caster...sometimes necromancer...um. Did, er, you...raise everyone?" The pleasant smile that the witch-hat clad woman somehow felt like it was growing wider despite her pleasant lips staying the same.

"Me? Raise the dead? Maybe?~~~" the broom rider finally answered, all too playful with them. "Or, maybe, the living were doing such a poor job of running the city that the dead were turning in their graves?" The Caster suggested. Slowly floating down to the ground across from them on her broom, she and The Barbarian flanked The Leader, with The Archer still distant atop the hill, four of them in total. "I think there's another way to put them all to rest, if you're all willing to lend me a hand?" Looking at the party's priestess, she added, "It'll be easy Miss Istennő. No fighting, or getting thrown around like a Holy Handgrenade. All you need to do is escort someone over to this city's Earl."

"Never! There's no negotiating with the undead or Necromancers!" Turning back to the group, she jabbed a finger at the woman and the corpses beside her. "We should purge them!"

Mac watched the amused look on the witches face and the antics of the group. Through his teachings from both his parents and those higher in the class of citizens he learned his to spot a liar or one that beat around the bush to cause their enemies to quarrel and Dodge the blame. "You know your a bad liar right? A person who wants to not be found lies throughout their teeth and keeps a good poker face to boot or a person innocent would be disgusted or afraid of the accusation given the culture you're in. You however do neither, smiling at the accusation and exploiting the culture like one big game that's where you messed up in your act. As far as how I figured it out well growing up in the empire I learned we do the same thing or along the same lines as your act the only difference we have the muscle to back ourselves up if called out."

Rikka swatted the hand aside from Dante as she stood after Viz finally got off her. Sure the warmth from the woman had stirred a painful flash of homesickness in the angelic woman, but Rikka had more pressing issues. Sitting next to the priestess with something to block out her hearing could be done later. She let out a small huff and narrowed her eyes and stared at the witch. Her sword hand itched.

"Why, so you can turn him too and let this blight spread uncontrolled?" Rikka looked to the others as she swung her sword up to again point at the witch.

"She just admitted to raising the dead! She is the cause of the undead! Do you think this is still a good idea to listen to her? To talk with her? As we speak she could be raising unspeakable abominations that we can't stop!"

Wu seemed dumbstruck, frozen in place as she slowly looked between the zombies... the rest of the squad... and whatever Viz was doing. She would eventually settle on a course of action, sending a text message out to the rest of the group:

"Ready to blow them up when you're ready Kikyo."

Royama narrowed her eyes and placed her head in her hands. She was nearing the end of her patience with a handful of her squadmates, "Wu. Kikyo isn't the person you should be seeking confirmation from for doing /anything/. Don't make me separate the two of you." Only half-joking by the tone of her voice, "If you so much as twitch your trigger fingers, there's going to be consequences." She spoke quietly over their shared comms, her voice rich with irritation, "We're going to solve this using our heads- and if you can't manage to do that, then you can stand there quietly and wait for those that can to finish. If, and only if, the only option is to go 'scorched earth' I'll let you know- and then you can go absolutely ham. Burn the fucking place down for all I care." She scolded.

"Rikka, be a dear and keep a proper eye on our archer friend." The Doctor said out loud to the Angel, motioning off in the back towards the open door, "Just in case." She explained to their brand new magical friend, "Who is it you're wanting us to escort- and why do we have even the slightest reason to trust you? I'd really suggest we resolve this quickly as we possibly can."

While the conversation was going on, there was a racket from behind one of the buildings. "No! That's a support wa-" A familiar, loud and raspy voice shouted as the side of a building caved in on itself. There was a group of zombies inside, dazed at the sudden collapse, and in the middle of the rubble was someone who had, for some time, been gone. The tall Jong-Wu who had strangled Viz not too long ago before finding the girl in the clearing. Her head was uncovered by her helmet, and it was obvious she had just saved one of the zombies from being turned into a red paste by the debris as she brushed the mortar and stone dust off the rest of her suit. "Come on Frank, get your head out of your ass!" The liger scolded, furrowing her brow.

The Zombie in question, Frank, started grunting and moaning, his hands and arms moving quickly, and Jayden shook her head. "I know that the wall was damaged, but remember what I said when we started. Clear the damage, but ask before you start kicking out walls," She said, finally letting off a smile. "Ah, I can't stay mad at you Frank," She said, looking up to see the rest of the group. "You and the others start cleaning this up, but leave the walls alone! We don't want anyone getting killed, got it?" She asked. Frank nodded, grunting to the rest of the Zombie crew as they started picking up the remains of the building, and piling them off to the side.

Jayden approached everyone else with a wave. "Hey, guys! I thought we were supposed to be helping?" She asked, stopping a few feet away, closer to the undead than to her actual squad. "I mean, they can certainly use it! They don't even understand what a support pillar is! We've been non-stop at this and we haven't even made a dent!" She said, looking over the other big zombies. "Oh... Hey, there are more of you guys! Do any of you have a way to get a hold of Thatcher? That shady guy? I've been trying to tell him the cobble work on 6th street is done but none of my runners have gotten back to me yet. Can't get a reliable runner it seems. Some people's children, am I right?"

City Square

"Oh my, so many theatrical dummies, I'm hurt!~" the buxom witch remarked, playfully pretending to swoon in distress at their accusations and threats of violence. However, as one of the nearby buildings collapsed, only for Jayden to stumble out, she laughed.

"Tiddy-cat, you're back!" Viz exclaimed.

"I think your companion got lost," the broom riding caster explained to the squad. Turning her attention to the prodigiously tall Jongwu, the woman gestured for her to come over with a gloved hand. "Don't worry about Thatcher or building more things, come join your friends. I was just going to explain how they could help fix everything up." Addressing them all as a whole, she picked off where she left off. "Long story short, the person I want you to escort over to the Earl...is his mother. She did a fine job building up this city - I was there - but it seems that he's quite the spoiled brat and never grew out of it. So, he needs to be put in his place. None of you like the idea of a place getting gentrified, the rent being driven sky high, and the poor being chased into slums, do you?" the necromancer rhetorically asked. "This used to be a nice neighborhood before he started putting all the money into his favorite side of the river too," she offhandedly remarked, surveying the area.

True to her word, it did look like the place had seen better days.

"As for why you should trust me, it's not so much a leap of faith, is it? After all, the boys and I didn't attack first," the broom riding caster pointed out, gesturing to her undead. The archer on the hill behind her, and the two fighters by her side. "So, what do you say? We'll go back to our graves once this neighborhood is cleaned up, and the people are able to live nice, peaceful lives."

"Or we can just purify your bubble-butt and clean up the 'hood after!" the party's priestess exclaimed. "Don't listen to her guys! She might have the bodies of several legendary heroes on her side that had toppled entire demonic armies in their heydays and is even one of their number, but we have technology! And lasers! And an angel! We should just wipe them out right now!"

Jayden looked between the group of dead people and the squad, her brow furrowed as she slowly walked towards the latter group. "But... Thatcher said..." She mumbled, scratching her head, ignoring the tiddy cat comment. She stood quietly, listening to everything being said, when Viz went on her tirade.

"Would you just shut the fuck up!?" Jayden asked, turning to the blue haired bimbo. "What the hell is wrong with you? Every time we encounter anyone who isn't Taianese, you just immediately go on the offense," the large cat growled. "Is that your thing? If you don't understand, shoot it?" She asked, then at everyone else. "Are we seriously going to react to everything we encounter with violence?"

"why would we ever break such a good habit?" Dante replied to the massive woman who had joined the group, far too involved in being furious with the groups two zealots to be in any way shocked at the immense size of Jayden. After all he had barely noticed the witch before he caught a mention of the D word and been scolded as reward for offering a heligible hand to his team mate, to say he had taken a negative view on the squad would have been an understatement.

"Let's just take the damn woman to the earl, after all if it works well fix the problem and if it don't then you get to purge evil" he sneered back over his shoulder to the bluenette as he scratched part of his horn, a nervous habbit he developed when he wasn't welcome, a familiar feeling for some reason.

Mac stood between Jayden and the other person "easy there we're not each other's enemy we should be focusing our anger and frustrations towards the true enemy here not each other." He said in a firm. But calm manner.

In the back of his mind he thought 'well worst case scenario I die sandwiches between two sexy people.'

"She raised a horde of undead and ran the living from their homes, or have we forgot the fact that we are the only living thing in a square mile?" Rikka asked as she spread her arms out to prove her point.

"She either killed them, or forced them out of their homes for some stupid reason like she was unhappy with how the town was run, and we aren't going to put a stop to this?" The Angel narrowed her eyes a little at Royama then to the tall new comer.
